I had measles at the age of fifteen and remember lying in bed in my darkened bedroom for two solid weeks. No daylight, no reading, no moving around except short trips to the bathroom. Thank goodness for radio. Who on earth wants to return to those “ good old days”?

Yes, daylight hurt. My room had venetian blinds, which were not so good for total darkness, and I remember the glare from the white gable end of the house next door was very painful. This was so long ago, the doctor made a house call, and I remember the whispering outside my bedroom door. The first safe, effective vaccine--and the forerunner of the MMR--did not happen till five years later in 1963.
